Chaumont en Charolais castle
Discover one of the largest private stables in France, an equestrian architecture master piece from the XVIIth century, inspired by the Italian Renaissance. They were built for the grandson of king Charles IX, by his wife, Henriette de Laguiche, duchess of Angouleme. Their outstanding architectural drawing, with three groin vault naves to accommodate two rows of horses, was inspired by a project of LEONARDO DA VINCI. According to the legend, only the King of France could have stables housing 100 horses, those of Chaumont contained 99 of them… But the 100th horse is the one of Philibert de Laguiche equestrian statue, placed above the main entrance!
Weddings & receptions in the stables.
