An impressive moated fortress in the Middle Ages, thanks to modifications in the 16th and 18th centuries,
Sully is now one of France´s most romantic stately homes. The castle´s inner courtyard is an exceptional example of French Renaissance architecture. A recently restored staircase and terrace on the North front sweep majestically towards the waters of the surrounding moat.
Sully is a family home lived in all year round by the Duchesse of Magenta and her children, descendants of the Dukes of Burgundy. Their ancestor, Field-Marshal Mac Mahon, is the only President of the French Republic to be born in Burgundy.
Park, walled kitchen garden. Award-winning childrens´ visits during school holidays. Candlelit tours and dinners in the Ballroom. New in 2012: themed historical visits. A character from the period shows you round and tells you their story.
In the heart of Burgundy, 35 km from Beaune and 17 km from Autun.
