La Ferté Abbey
The first monastery founded by St Etienne (1113), La Ferté was one of the most important Cistercian abbeys.
The church no longer exists but the magnificent Abbey Palace still remains intact. The interior decoration marvellously evokes life in the 18th century. Huge staircase, panelled drawing-rooms, sculpture, tapestries, paintings and the house’s original furnishings. Gallery containing 19th century objects of scientific interest. English-style landscaped park. You can make your visit last longer by spending the night in the Dovecote or in the Abbey Gatehouse. You can also taste wines from the family winery.
