Berzé le Châtel castle

Imposing medieval fortress overlooking vineyards in Lamartine’s valley. Set in a -conservation area opposite the prehistoric site of Solutré.

Built between the 13th and 15th centuries around the 10th century Carolingian Chapel.

Within the castle walls, three separate walled gardens incorporating orchards, kitchen gardens and a French parterre.

Possible guided tours in English.

Events of the year

Medieval festivals on May 9, 10, 11 and 12: artisan market, horse jousting, archery shows and fights, on-site catering.

The Medievals of the Assumption, from August 15 to 18: medieval activities, archers and cannoneers, artisan market. Catering on site.

2024 open or guided visits (55 mins)

From April 6 to June 30 and from September 1 to November 3:

  • open every day except Monday, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Guided tour at 5 p.m.
  • Sunday: open from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Guided tour at 5 p.m.

From July 1 to August 31:

  • open every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free and guided tours.
